Welcome to Forum for Green Folk, a non-governmental organization founded by Mohammad Aftabuddin. Aftabuddin is a graduate of Calcutta University and a former member of the Indian Armed Forces serving for more than 18 years, where he developed a deep appreciation for the biodiversity of India’s diverse terrains. After his retirement from the military, Aftabuddin worked as an assistant manager at Tata Teleservices and became involved in various NGOs and CSR activities. Through these experiences, he recognized the urgent need for environmental restoration. As a native of Murshidabad, known for its abundance of Palash (Butea Monosperma) trees, Aftabuddin believes that traditional folk knowledge should be integrated with scientific knowledge in the pursuit of preserving the environment. This conviction led him to establish Forum for Green Folk.
Meet Md Mostak Al Farhad, a professional environmentalist with a passion for preserving the planet’s delicate ecosystems. Farhad received his Master’s in Environmental Science & Technology, and had the opportunity to work in a variety of field settings, including the East Calcutta Wetlands, Gir National Park, and Sundarbans Biosphere Reserve. Through these experiences, he has come to understand the interconnectedness of different ecosystems and the vulnerability of these fragile bio webs. While working on a research project in Pune funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Farhad realized that nature is a complex system with simple solutions that require a deep understanding of the issues at hand. He has served as a consultant for the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in global industrial areas and published works on environmental impact assessments in South Asian and African countries. Farhad’s primary interests include traditional knowledge-based conservation and wetland restoration, and he has conducted research on the effects of environmental intervention in the Sundarbans and the impact of the plastic ban in Pune on attitudes towards the environment.
